I am going to start on methotrexate 15mg injections next Monday and i wondered who else is having them? Also how easy are they as i understand that they are in a pre filled syringe. I don't like the thought of seeing the needle!

I'm also on enbrel injections but as they are in a pen injection you don't see the needle and i don't mind those.

I'm getting quite nervous and wonder if i will be able to inject them.

Can anyone reassure me please?!!

I was on these for a few months before Christmas and I was scared too. The first one with the nurse was hard and she timed me. It took 11 minutes for me to pluck up the courage. The second one took 3 seconds! After that I found it a breeze. I did them in the roll of fat in my tummy below the belly button whilst sitting down. I figured that there was nothing but fat there so the needle couldn't hit anything else. I can honestly say mine only made a tiny little sting as they went in. It became so routine for me that it didn't bother me one bit after the first couple. I'm sure you will be fine as I am quite a nervous patient and do not like needles. I felt really proud of myself for 'achieving' this and hope you will too. Good luck and best wishes from Naomi.

Thank you for the replies. I do feel a little bit assured now and i know i have to give it a go. I just keep thinking about that needle! I can't have an increase in dosage orally as i had liver failure 20 months ago, caused by leflunomide and the consultant thinks i will get more benefit from an injection. I also get a sore mouth and feeling of being sick.

I will probably try in the tummy as i've plenty of fat there and i do my enbrel injection there as well.

Hi Everyone. I hope you have all had a good and pain free weekend.

I have just got back from the hospital after having my first methotrexate injection and as you all told me, it was fine!! No pain at all and the rheumy practioner said i done well and i would manage fine next time, so all that worry for nothing!

I have to start on a statin though because of my cholestrol. Is anyone else on a statin?

So pleased the injection went well, so often we imagine these things are going to be worse than they are.

I have been on statins for about three years now and have not had any problems with them.

Shirley, I am so pleased it went well. I can remember feeling relieved after the first one too. The first one you do yourself at home will naturally be a bit of a challenge but you will soon get used to it and eventually it should be a breeze! It's amazing what we can achieve when we have to put our minds to it isn't it? I would never have thought that I could do an injection with ease but I can. I was really tired yesterday afternoon and woke in the night feeling really sick but wasn't, is that normal? I felt sick with the tablets dueing the evening after having those but not in the night.

hi the sick feeling does go after a time i now get a burst of energy after i inj so beware, i do have to nod off later in the day for 10mins,slight headache briefly but otherwise fine,dorothy

I'm doing fine thankyou, did my second jab this morning. I agree, much less painful than Enbrel. I find all the paraphalia that goes with it more worrying than the actual inj now, spillage kit, gloves, plastic aprons etc. makes you wonder what we are putting into our bodies. Don't use the gloves, can't seem to manage to get them on and off, and how do you do your tum wearing an apron?
